The New York Power Authority is charged with creating the resources to power the economic growth and competitiveness of New York State. It is our mission. It is what we do. We employ six strategic initiatives to accomplish this mission. One of those initiatives, a strong, robust, and effective Asset Management program, is key to our success. We are Asset Savvy.
In 2014, we set out on a journey. Our aspiration wasn’t merely to better manage our assets but instead to develop a best-in-class Asset Management program. This six-year journey culminated in NYPA being recognized as the first electric utility in North America to be certified as ISO-55001 compliant.
This presentation will share a bit about the New York Power Authority’s Asset Management Journey, what it means to be Asset Savvy, and how collaboration, communication and change management are key ingredients to project success.
Ricardo da Silva is the VP – Strategic Operations at the New York Power Authority (NYPA). NYPA is investing in a roadmap aimed at transforming the state’s energy infrastructure to a clean, reliable, resilient, and affordable system over the next decade. Central to these objectives is deployment of an intelligent infrastructure and a robust Asset Management System.
Strategic Operations focuses on areas that are front and center regarding the Asset Management philosophy and the entire process and lifecycle, via deployment of sensors, advanced analytics, and new digital ways of working while leveraging key guiding principles including consistent portfolio review and asset performance.
Mr. da Silva has spent the last eighteen years at NYPA developing and managing major programs relating to generation as well as transmission assets. Prior to his current role, Mr. da Silva served as Project Manager, where he managed life extension & modernization programs at hydro and transmission facilities across NY State, and the interconnection of renewable generation into NYPA’s system.
Mr. da Silva holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a M.S. in Computer Engineering from Manhattan College, in addition to being a Project Management Professional (PMP) and certified by the Institute of Asset Management.
