Benefits Realization is becoming an important topic in the world of project management. It’s no longer sufficient to deliver projects “on time” and “within budget and scope”. The competitive landscape continues to place pressure on organizations to deliver on their strategies, and the cost and complexity of projects continues to increase. As a result, many organizations are treating projects as investments, and are using “anticipated benefits” as one factor to guide them in making investment decisions. Best-in-class organizations are then checking to see if their projects did indeed deliver those anticipated benefits, and then examining why or why not that happened, so that they can continue to make good investment decisions and delivery on their strategies.
Ruth Anne’s talk will explain the difference between project benefits and project deliverables, the common barriers to implementing benefits realization, and the importance of benefits sustainment. She will also present emerging roles in the new world of benefits realization. But, most importantly, Ruth Anne will demystify this topic and show you how to use some common benefits realization tools, and suggest ways to leverage the processes already in place in your organization to begin or strengthen support for benefits realization.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand of the concept of benefits realization, and common barriers to implementing
- What are the benefits realization processes
