"Summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro: A PM Case Study" by Kerry R. Wills, PMP, The Hartford Reaching almost twenty thousand feet high, Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest point in Africa. In Swahili, Kilimanjaro is translated as the 'Mountain of Greatness.' In 2000, Kerry and his brother decided to climb this great mountain. They spent months preparing for the trip. This included understanding what they would need to summit, designing their approach, getting the right equipment and training for endurance. They executed this plan in one week climbing up the mountain. Since his climbing plan included many of the same steps required in managing any project, Kerry decided to write a case study. His case study of Project Management best practices is in the context of planning and executing their journey up the mountain. |
