"The PM's Increasing Role in the Realm of Compliance" Many companies are facing a broad and deep array of regulations for which they must demonstrate compliance. In many cases, such as the Sarbanes ? Oxley Act, Basel 2, HIPPA, U.S. Patriot Act and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, it is imperative that a documented and effective controls framework be implemented. Furthermore, expanded regulations are being thrust on organizations that also require enhanced information technology controls, improved IT Governance and better process management. Simply stated, the process of regulatory compliance is now becoming a critical facet of business operations and IT has the potential to be critical enabler of the compliance process. This seminar will describe Enterprise Project Management?s (EPM) role in Regulatory Compliance. We will discuss compliance in general and, specifically, the Project Manager?s role to establish a control structure for application and initiatives that are scope-relevant to compliance. We will also explain what IT management processes are fundamental to the organization?s controls; Why more regulations are forthcoming and what they mean to the IT and PM professional; The importance of IT quality assurance and controls as regards compliance; The importance of the Project Manager?s role in assuring that a controls framework is in place and effective; Why technology for compliance is important, including EPM tools; and What to look for in technology to support compliance activities. | |

"Strategic Project Leadership" Strategic Project Leadership? is a new approach to project management that is focusing projects on creating value, competitive advantage and winning in the marketplace. This approach is being implemented by leading organizations with a great level of success. Strategic Project Leadership is based on the realization that project management is evolving, and it will be completely different than it has been in the last fifty years. In the traditional way, project managers and teams are typically focused on getting the job done, meeting time and budget goals, and achieving technical specifications. Strategic Project Leadership, or SPL, provides a research-based more modern view. It suggests that projects are done for business results and value creation, and just ?getting the job done? is not enough. Furthermore, projects differ and ?one size does not fit all.? You must therefore adapt the right project to the right level of technology and other variables, which are often overlooked in the traditional mindset. While timely delivery is critical to business, it must be complemented with the right strategic business focus. As our research shows, the strategic approach not only leads to better business results, but also contributes to better time and budget delivery. This lecture will provide a mindset, a framework, and a practical, step-by-step approach on how to connect project management to value creation and how to turn projects into powerful competitive weapons. The presentation will conclude by discussing the transformation process of the company?s projects from the traditional approach to the strategic approach. |

Optimizing Human Capital with Strategic Project Office?. As two realities of the modern marketplace converge-projects as the engines of growth, and people as the engine of projects-we find our traditional methods of dealing with human resource issues becoming dated. The strategic importance of human capital has grown exponentially as the workforce has changed from ?strong backs and capable hands? to ?flexible and creative minds.? This presentation will expand on one aspect of the SPO, its potential to transform an enterprise by making the most of people, share best practices of project-savvy organizations, and real emerging tools and techniques for assessing and developing competency, building inspired teams and providing people with a work environment where their intrinsic motivation can flourish. |
