Topic:
The Project Manager's Role in Navigating the Challenges of Agile Transformations

Breakout Room #1 Notes

Agile is like a drug that everyone wants to take. Corporations large and small have been embracing Agile since it was first reported as a NEW Competitive Advantage in the 2009 Harvard Business Review.
That said, many corporations who attempt Agile transformations fail, and fail miserably. If only they had learned lessons from those that had gone before. If only they had asked experienced Project Managers or Agile Coaches who could give them a road map of the challenges. Agile may not have been so hard or so expensive!

In this session, we will break out into small groups to discuss the 4 key pitfalls of Agile and how, as Project Managers, Agile Coaches and/or Scrum Masters, we would (or could) change the course of an Agile transformation if we saw it go awry. There will not be one KEY Speaker, but as professionals, we will share within our breakout rooms insights from our own experiences, tackle a question posed by a CEO, and then report our findings back to the entire group.

You can not ghost this session! All voices will be accounted for in the debrief. Everyone will be asked to participate. If you are not an Agile practitioner, this is your opportunity to hear the disaster stories from your colleagues. If you are an Agile practitioner, you can discuss your own Agile journey, or the change management journeys you have observed.

You should not miss this meeting. Controlled chaos at its finest! Agile?

Speaker:
You!

PMI Westchester is an association of deeply experienced project management professionals. We are over 650 members strong, and each of us has talents with Project Management, be it Waterfall, Agile or a Hybrid, that we have never shared in a collective group. This is an opportunity to solicit this deep knowledge and gravitas from those who have years of experience in their field. Tackling organizational Change Management problems is critical topic in any of the PMBOK literature and most of the exams. Going forward, PMI challenges us to think creatively and holistically about our role in support of our organizations or communities. Agile has come to mean flexibility, positivity and a "go forward fast" attitude. In this session we will call upon each other to add to our collective knowledge and lessons learned from our successes and observed failures.
