Message from the President - February 2019

The weather seems to be confused between frigid temperatures and Spring-like days. Punxsutawney Phil may be onto something when he said Spring is coming early. However, there is no confusion going on at our Chapter, as everyone is laser focused on making sure the learning continues! You will be seeing registration opening shortly for our Annual Symposium on April 6th at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. We have a FABULOUS line-up of speakers coming for this event, so I hope you will be able to join us. As I mentioned at the Chapter meeting last month, our pricing will remain the same for this 8-PDU day. We will be providing details at our February Chapter meeting.

We are also gearing up for our next networking/social event. This will be a chance to get to know your fellow colleagues while doing good for the local community. The event will be announced in the coming weeks so stay tuned!

This month we are going to learn how to make our PowerPoint presentations even better with our very own Stephanie Unger, who’s been part of the PMI Westchester team since 2013. She has worked in corporations, small businesses, non-profits, and Government planning projects in a variety of capacities. Stephanie was responsible for launching a brand-new product for Post Cereal in under 4 months, which was less than half the typical timeline. Stephanie is taking the reins this month to help us learn how to add animation to our slides, embed audio/video, transition between slides, and much more. Make sure to bring a notebook, as we will be creating a PowerPoint presentation together LIVE during this event. Be sure to register for this event quickly!

After the Chapter meeting our Communities of Practice (CoPs) will meet for you earn an extra PDU. We have three CoPs for you to choose from; Career & Personal Development, Quality, and PMO. Be sure to stick around for one of them to share your expertise with your colleagues.

On Wednesday, February 20th, our Lunch and Learn team will be holding a roundtable discussion. See our website for more details and to register. You must be a PMIW Chapter member to attend this event.

Our Breakfast Roundtable team is back on Tuesday, February 26th. Mary Gilmartin will lead the session on “Express Lessons Learned.” During the session, you will be reviewing a technique to accomplish Lessons Learned effectively and efficiently. Then you’ll get to put a spin on it where you can apply the same technique in a virtual setting. See our website for more details and to register. You must be a PMIW Chapter member to attend this event.

I hope you will join me on Tuesday, February 12th at the Royal Palace!!

See you at the Chapter meeting…
Brenda Horton, PMP
President
