Required Skills:

Work Experience

·         Minimum 5 years experience in business. Media, cable, and/or legal business analysis and project management is preferred

·         Proven project management and leadership skills, including the ability to gather clear business requirements.

·         Proven ability to develop, document and maintain operational policies and procedures, including the designing and documenting detailed process flows, and the development of operational performance and quality metric standards and reports.

·         Proven experience working with Excel and developing and maintaining various analyses and reporting tools.

·         General knowledge of the Cable, Broadcast Network and Entertainment industries.

·         Knowledge of systems supporting legal and law processing, intellectual property management or similar disciplines is preferred.

Computer Skills

·         Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.

·         Knowledge of MS Project.

·         Knowledge of e-mail/scheduling software applications.

·         Experience with legal and legal related systems, a plus

Education:

·         BA degree business or related field preferred.

Description:
General Description of Position:

The Business Analyst reports to the Vice President, Application Development. This person is responsible for supporting all phases of application development including analysis and design, programming, hardware and software requirements, performing such activities as customer support, tracking and analyzing application development and delivery, user acceptance testing, and customer rollout. There is a significant internal customer and vendor management component to this particular position.

The Business Analyst designs and documents workflow and makes appropriate recommendations that improve operational effectiveness. The Business Analyst tracks and analyzes business unit trends and makes appropriate recommendations that positively impact the unit and the business. The Business Analyst will also act as a Project Manager and lead key projects for the business unit and the company. The Business Analyst will be the functional expert on the specified application(s). The Business Analyst will be the sole point of contact between the business unit and IS&T’s Application Development Specialist.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

Project Management

·         Works directly with appropriate IS&T personnel to understand project concept, objectives and approach.

·         Takes assigned project from original concept through final implementation.

·         Defines project scope and objectives.

·         Creates and maintains project schedules by developing project plans and specifications, estimating time requirements, establishing deadlines, monitoring milestone completion, tracking all phases of the project product/service lifecycle, providing timely reporting of issues that impact project progress, coordinating actions, and resolving conflicts. This includes documenting, prioritizing and tracking requests (changes, enhancements, etc.) and coordinating change control with the business unit and IS&T.

· Conducts project meetings.
· Meets with project team(s) regularly to review project deliverables and deadlines.

1 Meets with appropriate personnel for periodic reviews of prototypes and final products.
2 Provides single point of contact for assigned projects.
- Coordinates interaction and communication among IS&T personnel.

· - Identifies and coordinates assignments of internal resources and external contractors to meet IS&T’s project requirements.

· Works with appropriate personnel to allocate personnel time to project tasks and to track progress of their work.

1 Assesses and prepares to address the operational impacts, workflow, training, etc. issues of a project.

Business Analysis and Reporting

·         Assists the legal department business manager in developing tactical and strategic product, services and/or programs to support the business unit’s goals (financial, quality, production, customer service, operational efficiency, etc.).

·         Works closely with IS&T personnel and business partners to identify and maximize opportunities to use information and technology to improve service and/or program business processes.

·         Reviews, analyzes, and creates detailed documentation of business systems and user needs, including workflow, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer programs.

·         Consults with IS&T personnel to determine business, functional and technical requirements for specified applications.

·         Coordinates the development of all approved versions of business and functional specifications for specified applications. Reviews use cases and other technical documents with IS&T project staff to ensure business requirements are adequately reflected in technical planning documents.

·         Develops effective reporting tools for the legal department.

·         Analyzes the legal business unit’s activities and trends and compares analyses against the service standards and best practices. Presents findings and works with the business unit and other personnel to identify and implement strategies that will address tactical and strategic goals.

·         Prepares routine reports (financial, quality, production, customer service, operational efficiency, etc.).

·         Analyzes trends and recommends adjustments address and/or capitalize on trends.

Quality Assurance and Testing

·         Defines, develops and implements quality assurance practices and procedures, end user test plans and other QA assessments.

·         Works with IS&T personnel to conduct testing to meet project objectives Ensures that all tests are conducted and documented according the standards agreed upon by the business unit and IS&T.

·         Responsible for ensuring that all documentation accurately reflects the current status of changes and outstanding issues so that business requirements reflect application features and functions.

·         Manages specific application quality assurance and help desk activities including the tracking of bug reports and change requests and ensuring their timely resolution.

·         Ensures that all items follow the change management process and are entered and tracked through the change management process.

·         Responsible for the overall success of testing, including results verification and release sign-off.

·         Establishes the purpose and deliverables of the test effort.

·         Provides resource planning, management and resolution of issues that impede the test effort.

·         Advocates the appropriate level of quality by the resolution of important defects; and working with the IS&T support project manager to ensure the software development process has an appropriate level of testing.

·         Coordinates groups of business personnel who test, evaluate and validate new functions and applications, and identify issues in software or services.

·         Analyzes discrepancies in service or performance and makes recommendations for updates.

·         Provides final signoff to the IS&T project manager to release code to production.

·         Ensures continuing operational quality by documenting bug fixes and enhancements assigning tasks to developers, testing and releasing updates.

Training

·         Proactively assists with the identification of training and development requirements for the legal.

·         Presents findings, and works with legal department business manager and other personnel to design and implement training and development initiatives that will continuously upgrade the skills and capabilities of personnel in the legal department and for IS&T overall.

Leadership and Development

·         Collaborates with all functional business units within IS&T to achieve strategic, tactical and project goals.

·         Provides leadership needed to instill a team-oriented, client-driven, results-driven team. Coaches and develops employees.

Technical Responsibilities:

·         Responsible for interfacing with other divisions of IS&T (i.e. Development, Technical, Customer Service, Training and Quality Management) and/or vendors to support existing applications, new applications, products and tools.

·         Increase understanding of programming techniques and design principles through hands-on experience, training and publications.

·         Participate in work sessions (e.g., JAD workshops) with the business community to understand objectives of development requests.

·         Responsible for clearly communicating technical material, verbally or in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences.

·         Participate in a project team (that may consist of business users, consultants and other development staff) in performing the analysis, design, construction, testing, implementation, support, documentation and all other phases of systems development and maintenance.

·         Assist in development activities including the creation of data models, application code, on-line help facilities and test plans.

·         Assist the development team in the creation of project plans. May contribute in the requirements phase of development tasks.

·         Maintain an understanding of technology trends as it relates to application development by attending seminars, conferences, trade magazines, etc.

·         May assist in evaluating and implementing new technologies, products and tools used in the application development area.
