Letter from the President

PMI Westchester in Transition

January was a transition month for me in two ways.  As you may have noticed, our home page is topped by a picture of my brand new twin grandchildren, born January 8th.  At their naming ceremony I had an opportunity to express my vision for their future to the gathered crowd.  Looking at their idyllic peaceful demeanor and considering my daughter’s incredible strength of character and sanity in the belly of the beast (Washington, DC), I predicted that they would be instrumental in straightening out the 21st century.

While out of touch with the chapter for 18 days as my wife and I helped my daughter get started on her new adventure, it occurred to me that another birth had taken place 18 months ago back in Westchester.  During that time, our chapter (led by a seasoned and enthusiastic board of directors) ran a chapter meeting, and held a breakfast roundtable, two education events, and kicked off a new six-week PMP Study Group organized by Mentoring Program Manager Jeff Zonenshine and hosted by our new co- VP of Programs, Anita Wilton.  It’s almost like motherhood watching the organization grow and prosper.  Of course my daughter would probably laugh if I told her that.

In February

Anita Dhir, our Director of Professional Development, just returned from a two month visit with her family in India where she taught and lectured on PM, and has been invited to join the Bombay chapter of PMI.  Anita brings her own special energy to our organization and we look forward to the programs she has in store.

Frank Saladis returns on the February 17 and 18 to teach his two-day PMP Exam Preparation Class, designed to prepare even the most unprepared.  This class is a must if you plan to take the exam in the next few months.  Frank is an experienced and popular trainer and speaker, and president-elect of the NYC chapter in 2004.  Enroll early so you don’t miss it.

Our February 12 chapter meeting will feature a talk on CMM, and Breakfast Roundtable attendees on the February 26th will discuss Tips for Writing a Business Case.  Roundtables are totally interactive and the conversation is always lively and opinionated.

Membership

If you’re reading this newsletter and are not a member of the Westchester chapter, why not join today?  By joining the chapter you will be contributing to the myriad programs that the chapter brings to you and the local community.  Membership dues are our primary means of providing those programs.  If you have let your membership lapse now is the time to renew.  If you have never been a member now is the time to join.  You can join online by logging in to the PMI HQ web site membership area, or call PMI HQ at 610.356.4600 and do so on the phone.  Join the PMI Westchester chapter to be where the action is in local project management in 2004.
