PMI Westchester Chapter - Programs

The purpose of the Westchester Chapter of PMI is to help Project Managers learn and grow as professionals, to facilitate networking among professionals, and to help stakeholders in our area understand the value of project management and support the growth of the profession. Our volunteer-run programs support that mission in many different ways. Chapter programs are open to members and non-members alike, and - except for classes, the Job Club and the Professional Development Day - pre-registration is not required. All programs are announced on the chapter calendar and in monthly e-mails to the Chapter membership.

Chapter Meetings

Chapter meetings are typically held the second Tuesday of each month, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., and include networking, a buffet dinner, a stimulating speaker on a Project Management topic and opportunities to meet recruiters, vendors and other guests at our meetings. Participants earn one PDU for the Chapter meeting and may claim a second PDU for attending one of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that meet afterwards, from 7:45 – 8:45 PM.

The PMO SIG's purpose is to allow members to share experiences and learn best practices for running a successful Program Management Office. For more information, see the PMO SIG page.

The Quality SIG's purpose is to share best practices and experiences related to Quality Management and provide a forum where specific quality-related questions are explored in depth. For more information see the Quality SIG page.

Professional Development

PMP Preparation

If you don't have your PMP Certification, the chapter is prepared to help you with two high-quality, professionally-led courses at a very low cost. Both courses are designed to help you master the PM Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), and feature extensive test Preparation. Well over 90% of students in both programs go on to pass the PMP exam.

Other Courses

The Westchester Chapter offers several one-day courses each year on specific topics that are of special interest to our members. Once again, our focus is on value - offering high-quality classes to our members at a low, affordable price. Upcoming courses are featured on the chapter calendar, and notices are e-mailed to all members.

Professional Development Day

Our 2012 Professional Development Day, on Mar 31, 2012, will feature 10 exciting speakers on the topic of managing projects in the face of change and uncertainty.

Breakfast Roundtables

Usually held on the third Thursday of each month, these early-morning meetings get members to exchange views on important Project Management issues, in moderated, open discussion that is conducive to networking and building relationships. The program is free and open to all; upcoming meeting times may be found on the Chapter's home page. Breakfast items and coffee can be purchased on site.

Job Club

The Job Club is a free support group for Project Managers who are looking for new or different employment. With the help of outside speakers and a project plan for re-employment, members learn to employ a proactive approach to job searching that is proven to be successful at tapping the vast market of jobs that are never advertised or publicly posted. The regular meetings include various speakers, career coaches, facilitated workshops and member presentations. Membership is free, but members are expected to actively participate, develop their job search skills and ‘give back’ to the club by sharing, supporting and collaborating. More information can be found on the Job Club page.

Career Center

The PMI Westchester Chapter provides a bulletin board for the corporate community and recruiters to post job listings. As a chapter membership benefit, project management opportunities are e-mailed to chapter members in addition to being posted to this web site.

Newsletters

All issues of The Critical Path, the PMI Westchester Chapter's newsletter, contain articles of interest to our PM community here in Westchester and beyond: articles by PM experts, chapter news, upcoming programs, education offerings, a Letter from the President, and more. The current and past newsletters are available on the site.

Research

The PMI Westchester Chapter supports project management research efforts by Chapter members and by the larger PMI membership. The highest priority is placed on respecting members’ privacy and insuring that informed consent principles are applied. For more information, see the Research page.

Communications

Our Communications team works hard to keep chapter members informed about events, courses, job opportunities and opportunities for project managers to grow professionally. We use e-mail extensively, so it’s important to make sure that you keep your e-mail address up to date with PMI.org, and that you make sure that your spam filter doesn’t trap e-mail from “pmiwestchester.org”. We are also starting to use Social Media to help our members network and learn from each other. "Like" us on Facebook, join the PMI Westchester Networking Group on Linked-in, and follow us on Twitter to make sure you stay completely connected with the Chapter.
